What is a Hanbok?
A hanbok is the traditional clothing of Korea, historically consisting of a jeogori (an upper jacket) paired with a chima (a flowing skirt) for women, or baji (loose, comfortable trousers) for men. Whilst it was once worn as everyday attire, today the hanbok is reserved for special occasions such as holidays, weddings, and family celebrations. Modernized hanboks have also become immensely popular among international visitors in South Korea, who love to rent them to explore historic palaces and heritage sites.
What’s the difference between Korean fashion and Korean-inspired fashion?
Korean fashion is a broad category that includes all clothing designed by Korean brands, ranging from hoodies to skirts and jackets. Korean-inspired fashion, on the other hand, is a more specific category that focuses on garments influenced by Korean cultural heritage or distinctive styles closely associated with Korea. This includes modern interpretations of traditional clothing, such as the hanbok, as well as designs and silhouettes that are uniquely characteristic of Korean fashion.
Do you sell Korean-inspired accessories?
Yes, we offer a beautiful selection of accessories inspired by Korean culture and heritage right here at Malkn. In particular, we stock a range of norigae, traditional decorative pendants that are typically worn with hanboks, but can easily be repurposed to add a unique statement to modern bags and outfits.
Can I wear Korea-inspired fashion every day?
Absolutely. While some Korean-inspired designs draw inspiration from traditional Korean clothing, most are created with modern lifestyles in mind. Many pieces can be easily incorporated into everyday wardrobes, allowing you to add a subtle touch of Korean style to your everyday wear.
